Feeding the Pig

It sure was hot and humid today. I can tell you all about it as it was the Grand Opening of Dyersburg’s Farmer’s Market and our library had a big presence there. We sold breakfast food, lunch food, handmade items, plants, and baked goods, besides providing games and fun for children who attended the event. We are purchasing and renovating the old Piggly Wiggly grocery store building for our new library so we’ve adopted the campaign slogan “Feed Our Pig”. Today we carried the theme all the way through from serving sausage and biscuits for breakfast to developing a game for children called Pig Toss. I could kick myself for not getting a good photo of the children playing Pig Toss. It was as cute as could be and the kids loved it. This basically is a bean bag tossing game and the target is a hole that is cut out of a large hand painted plywood pig. And our creative Dianne developed the idea for this game and with the help of her brother, George, made the items needed in order for the children to enjoy it.

I wish it hadn’t been so hot, and if anyone tells you that southern women don’t sweat, they glisten - don’t believe it! After I got back home, showered, and cooled off, I was able to concentrate on the success of our event - and it was successful! As always, I don’t know what we’d do without our Dianne. She truly is the creative force behind these events, as well as the hardest worker. This is not to belittle the efforts of the others who showed up to help. Staff members, spouses, in-laws, and wonderful friends braved the awful heat and worked hard on this project also.

I expect we’ve got a good many more fundraisers in our future if our community has a prayer of getting this library built. I’ve never been too involved with causes before, but this is a good and worthy cause. I’m in all the way!

Got another grant to start writing tomorrow afternoon. Wish my friend, Susan, who loves to write grants could come and spend about a month. Susan, oh Susan..... where are you Susan? The plane ticket would be on me!
