Our Backyard Town

Cathy and Mike Barnett of Martin, TN own one of the most charming and unique Bed and Breakfast Inns I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. They most graciously allowed our photography class, taught by Dr. Tom Gallien, the opportunity to spend an evening polishing our photography skills there. Cathy and Mike have spent years collecting antiques and memorabilia and they have used their collections to set up an antique town in their large backyard. There is a little church on the property where small private weddings are booked, a depot, a drugstore, a large garage with an impressive collection of antique cars, and much, much more. Truly, there is so much to see that it is impossible to describe. I will add a link to their website so you can get a feel for what they have to offer, and if you would like an enjoyable weekend away with some wonderful southern hospitality, I highly recommend “Our Backyard Town”. Their B&B has been featured on the popular PBS show, “Tennessee Crossroads”, and in “Tennessee Magazine”, a Tennessee Rural Electric Cooperative Association monthly publication. You can visit www.ourbackyardtown.com to find out more.

Cathy and Mike have graciously allowed me to post a couple of my better images. Just remember that I am a beginning photographer.

To the right is a still life that Cathy had set up in one of the guest rooms.

Shown below is an outdoor sitting area that was shot after dark.

Our group is clamoring for Tom to offer a more advanced class. We will miss the Tuesday evening sessions and all the instruction he so patiently gave us. Now to keep on practicing with the camera and strive to learn Photoshop, which I know will be difficult, but worth the effort.
