Antique Trip

My husband and I love old things. We collect old things. As a matter of fact, when the last one of us has passed from this life and our 5 children are faced with disposing of our things, there will probably be lots of big black garbage bags involved. But that doesn’t deter us, because we really enjoy spending our Saturdays rambling around in various antique haunts. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I just browse, and sometimes I take my camera and spend my time outside while my husband is inside looking for his favorite collectible, antique marbles. Below is a photo I took just outside the door of an antique shop in Cape Girardeau, MO, one of my favorite antique destinations. I loved the display.

The little tin bank really caught my eye but I didn’t spring for it the day I saw it. I am fairly inclined to pass something up, go home and ruminate on it, and later go back to purchase. If its not there when I go back, I just tell myself that it wasn’t meant to be. I did pass up a beautiful antique quilt once that I’ll always regret not buying when I had the chance. Some of us never learn. But I got lucky on the bank. Besides the charm of the bank, I thought the message was powerful.

God has given us two hands -- one to receive with and the other to give with. We are not cisterns made for hoarding; we are channels made for giving.
