Day 2 in St. Louis took us west on Manchester Road where we saw a show stopping sight. I have never seen a canopy of flowers growing from the roof of a huge greenhouse before. We drove by after the rather large business establishment had closed for the day, but I had to stop and take a few pictures. They had every kind of beautiful blooming plant you could imagine - from bright red potted geraniums to multi-colored zinnias that were being guarded by pink flamingos.
Those flamingos used to be a common sight to wake up to on a special birthday where I live. Often the number of flamingos in the yard corresponded to the victim's age.
Ah....there are some good things about getting older. I don’t think anyone owns enough flamingos to worry with my birthday anymore. Before I started hitting those 30+ birthdays, though, it was toilet paper all over the yard.
Ahner’s Gardens and Gifts is a place I intend to visit during normal hours of operation the next time I am in St. Louis. I would have loved to have seen the inside of this huge place.
We finished up Day 2 at Cardwell's, our favorite restaurant in St. Louis. There are many wonderful places to have dinner in St. Louis, but we always go back to Cardwell's. We've never had anything short of a delicious meal there, and the service is dependably impeccable. My plans are to return to St. Louis in the fall and visit the Botanical Gardens with good friends of ours. They tell us that fall is as beautiful as spring at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens. I can hardly wait.

You should have called, you were 2 minutes from our house! :) I love Ahner's nursery every spring, we look forward to the blooming roof.
I wouldn't have torn you away from that new baby for anything. What a little beauty!
We get up there as frequently as we can and I promise to call the next time. I probably love St. Louis almost as much as you do.
Went to Sign of the Arrow while I was there and picked up a tiny needlepoint ornament - a little Clydesdale. Too cute!
